The essentials before you go
Season
October–November, the best time
Clear skies, visible mountains, big festivals. December to April is good too; from June to September the monsoon hides the peaks, but the cities are still worth visiting.
Budget
Still an inexpensive country
Entrance fees are the first unexpected expense: allow about 5,600 NPR (≈ €32) for the six main sites of the Kathmandu Valley.
Transport
Short distances, long journeys
Kathmandu–Pokhara: 200 km, but 6 to 10 hours by bus. The domestic flight (25 min) saves you a day.
You get your visa on arrival, at Kathmandu airport or at the border: form, fees and pitfalls to avoid on our dedicated site.
